Downpipes, Tiles & a Garage Door

It has been a busy 24 hours at our house, with a couple of milestones being achieved today - our tiling in the wet areas started and we now have a garage door installed.

I met the tiler on-site this morning to (a) ensure we had all the correct tiles on site; (b) show him what orientation we wanted our wall tiles and (c) show him where we wanted our feature tiles in each room.

Upon returning this afternoon, I was pleasantly surprised to see that all the tiles (wall & floor) had been completed, with the exception of our feature tiles and the top row of white wall tiles to go above the feature in our ensuite - this is because our feature tiles for the ensuite appear to be on backorder (the tiler wasn't too happy he wasn't informed before he got to site either as it means he will have to come back). Despite not understanding my instructions with regards to the feature tile in the Powder Room, the overall quality of the work appears very good. There are some wall and floor tiles where the grout lines don't match up (even though we intentionally chose the same width tile to avoid this problem) but I will reserve judgment as to how noticeable it will be once the grouting is completed tomorrow.

Overall we are pleased in how our colours are coming together - initial thoughts were that maybe it was all a bit too "brown" (with the cabinetry and the floor tiles), but the longer we stood there looking at it this afternoon, the more it grew on us :) We are also very happy with our drain in the ensuite too - it has come up a treat!!

Another unexpected surprise this afternoon was our Garage Door - it has been installed (though obviously not working yet as there is now power hooked up still). I'm not sold on the colour of the door (probably the first uncertainty I have had thus far) but I think if we choose the right colour stones in our driveway, it will come up quite nicely.

Hopefully I will have another update after tomorrow afternoon when the grouting is done.

  2. Love the tiled niche at the ensuite. How much to upgrade to that extended laundry bench? Look like there is a space left empty at the end of the bench?

    1. Thanks - we are very pleased with how the niche turned out! The extended laundry was around $500. We adopted the floor plan for the Retreat Vogue for our Theatre and Laundry setup so the linen cupboard is actually against the wall to the kitchen and we have a nice gap between the end of the laundry bench and the linen cupboard.

    2. I see. Though this cant be seen in the photo you took but I can imagine that is nice.

With the color of your downpipes I thought you chose Monument? It looks like beige in the photo though.

What are your color selection for Infill above windows, Infill above doors, Meter box and downpipes? Are these painted or going to be painted soon?

    5. The colour of the infill above the windows and doors, meter box and downpipes is Dulux Camel Train - quite a neutral colour as we didn't want these to "stand out" as such and means the downpipes should blend in to the brick work.
